DATELINE – JD James, Inc. completes work on the New First District Court of Appeals in Tallahassee, Florida.

The First District Court of Appeals (1ST DCA) in Tallahassee is one of five appellate courts in the State of Florida. Located in downtown Tallahassee since 1981 near the Florida State University College of Law, the 1st DCA is slated to move its operations to its newly constructed Southwood location in October 2010.

Construction of the 110,000 sq. ft. appeals court is employing green building practices to conserve energy and protect Florida’s natural resources. The appellate court, once completed, will be an energy efficient LEED Certified three story building housing several judges’ chambers, courtrooms, Marshall’s offices, libraries and administrative offices. Once the existing 1st DCA building is vacated and renovated, Florida State University College of Law will be moving in to better serve its faculty and students.

JD James, Inc. installed 12 miles of standing and running trim made of Sapale Mahogany, multiple runs of crown moldings and wall trim, mahogany wainscot panels on all walls, niches and stairs with radius and sharp angles, 3rd row lobby / atrium 8 rows of crown and wall trim starting at 36 feet high coming down in several stages, casement and trim starting at 36 feet high coming down in several stages, casement and trim around elevator doors, installation of administration desk, cabinets and book cases, clerk’s office transaction counter, 2nd floor courtroom wall panels, gallery wall, judges bench, credenza and seating. JD James, Inc. won an Eagle Award for Excellence in Construction from the Associated Builders and Contractors.
